Biography

Sinentlahla Ndala, affectionately known as Omio, is a promising South African operatic soprano whose musical journey began in her early years through church and school performances. Despite limited formal music education during her childhood, Omio’s innate talent shone through her involvement in Sunday school choirs and primary school productions.

Her passion for choral music flourished in high school, leading her to join various small ensembles that highlighted her exceptional vocal skills. Omio’s solo debut performance of “O mio babbino caro” in Grade 11 earned her the nickname “Omio,” a tribute to her uncle, a University of KwaZulu-Natal graduate who supported her musical aspirations.

Omio pursued her formal music education at Nelson Mandela University, where she made notable advancements in her career. She was selected among the top six for the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival Masterclass, conducted by Professor Martin Hundelt from Germany. Additionally, she performed as a soloist in the Schubert Mass in G and collaborated with Cape Town Opera on the production of La Bohème, further establishing her presence in the music scene.

Holding a Diploma in Music under the guidance of voice lecturer Njabulo Sifiso Mthimkhulu, Omio is currently working towards a Bachelor of Music in General Studies. With a strong commitment to a future in opera, Omio aspires to make her mark on the international stage.
